How DTI is run

DTI is incorporated as a Utah nonprofit corporation, with an IRS 501(c)(3) application pending. As bylaws and formal governance documents are finalized, they'll be published here.

DTI exists because concentrated, unaccountable power broke the internet. So the organization is built to resist concentrated, unaccountable power, including its own.

• One contributor, one vote

  Major decisions will be made by the people who build and sustain DTI, one equal vote each. There are no super-voting shares, because there are no shares.

• No shareholders

  In effect

  DTI is a nonprofit. No equity, no investors, no exit. The mission can't be outvoted by money, because money doesn't get a vote.

• No single leader

  Planned

  DTI will be structured so that no one person, including the founder, can capture it. Power that can't be concentrated can't be bought.

• Free speech, taken seriously

  We will hold to the broad free-expression tradition defended by organizations like the ACLU and FIRE: wide latitude for lawful speech, transparent rules, and no invisible thumb on the scale.
